The Investigations Division, under the command of Captain William Lyons, Jr., serves as the investigative branch of the Sumter Police Department. The division’s mission and primary responsibility is to thoroughly investigate felony and serious misdemeanor crimes occurring within the City of Sumter and to identify, arrest, and successfully aid in the prosecution of offenders.
The Investigative Services Division is represented by a group of highly trained and dedicated detectives. The detectives work cooperatively with other divisions within the Sumter Police Department, as well as with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
The desire of all detectives and officers in the Investigative Services Division is to reduce the rate of crime by arresting those responsible for committing crimes in our community and to provide support to all victims of crime.
